What is the BioShaft System?
The BioShaft System is a patented fixed film wastewater  treatment process that virtually eliminates sludge. BioShaft uses a biological process that uses thousands of special carriers. These carriers are  designed to create a large surface area  in order to promote the growth of biofilm.

What is biofilm?
The microorganisms found in wastewater are capable of replicating on their own.  The microorganisms attached to our special carriers secrete a gelatinous material which serves to protect the microorganism. This material and the microorganism itself are known as biofilm.

How does biofilm work?
Biofilm development is a dynamic process influenced by microbial attachment and detachment processes and growth. The microorganisms responsible for the conversion of organic material are attached to the inert carrier. Each species of microorganism adheres to its own particular insoluble substrate and produces enzymes to degrade insoluble substrates to soluble nutrients. The organic material and nutrients are removed from the wastewater flowing through the biofilm.

What’s makes BioShaft different then other fixed film technologies?
Like other fixed film technologies, BioShaft enhances the wastewater treatment process while reducing the footprint. However what makes the BioShaft unique is by growing, collecting and reintroducing biofilm into the process again it allows the BioShaft to virtually eliminate sludge.

Other fixed film systems have longer retention times forcing the suspended growth to take over, while Bioshaft uses an exact (patented) retention time to keep reproducing biofilm and washing away the suspended growth before they can take over.
